1994 was a fantastic year for movies, among the highest grossing of the year we find such movies as: Forrest Gump, Speed, Pulp Fiction and Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles. According to imdb the the second best movie ever came out that year, namely The Shawshank Redemption, the moving story of a man wrongly convicted of murdering both his wife and her lover. And while where talking about second best, 1994 was also the year of one of William Hurt’s strongest performances (And he has many).
Second Best is the story of Graham Holt(Hurt), a lonely middle-aged man that decides to adopt a son and the difficulties he encounters in doing so. The movie was sadly overlooked at the oscars, the big winner was of course Forrest Gump, but there was other movies that got their well deserved nominations and awards, such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Quiz Show, Madness of King George, Nobody’s Fool, Nell, Ed Wood, Bullets Over Broadway, Heavenly Creatures and Trois couleurs: Rouge.
